Nursing organizations are the backbone of the profession. They advocate, and lobby to political leaders for change in policies and push for financial resources to carry out various plans and research. Most nursing organizations are specialized to a specific field, but they all have the common goal of promotion of wellness and providing healthcare to those in need when they need it. Speaking to my current role of a Medical Surgical nurse the organization of Academy of Medical surgical Nurses primary goal is to “focus on workplace advocacy; evidence-based practice, research and knowledge; professional development; national leadership and influence; and organizational health.” (AMSN Overview, 2019) Their vision is to have Medical-surgical nurses use their powerful voice and focused action to continuously improve patient care, and believe patients receive better care when medical-surgical nurses engage in ongoing professional development, use evidence-based practices, speak with a unified voice, serve as leaders on healthcare teams, have the necessary resources to deliver excellent care, and practice in a healthy practice environment. (AMSN Overview, 2019)

Nursing organizations have evolved to extensive levels of membership and with more than 3 million nurses these organizations have a massive resource for initiating change, with the largest organization being the American Nurses Association. “These organizations provide the opportunity for nursing as a profession to influence nursing practice, nursing education, health policy, and healthcare standards.” (Halstead, 2018) All nursing organizations advocate for patient care safety, continued education for nurses, allocating resources for those in need, and research with development of new policy.

dysrhythmia

Your written assignment for this module should be a 2-3 page paper (not including title page and reference page).

A 78-year old woman is admitted to a Medical unit directly from her physician’s office for evaluation and management of congestive heart failure. She has a history of systemic hypertension.

The initial assessment completed by the RN of the assigned patient reveals a pulse rate that is rapid and very irregular. The patient is restless, her skin is pale and cool, she states she is dizzy when she stands up and she is slightly short of breath and anxious. Her BP is 106/88. Her ECG monitor pattern shows uncontrolled atrial fibrillation with a heart rate ranging from 150 -170 beats/min. Her respirations are 20/min and her O2 saturation is 90%. Given the findings, what should be the first action of the practical nurse? What additional data would the practical nurse collect? Discuss the potential complications of cardioversion and patient preparation for an elective cardioversion. Because the length of time the patient has been in atrial fibrillation is unknown, what adverse reaction may occur?

Later that evening the patient calls the nurse because she feels “like something terrible is going to happen.” She reports chest pain, has increased shortness of breath, and has coughed up blood-tinged sputum. Based on these symptoms, what might you suspect is happening? What is the first thing the practical nurse should do and what further information would you expect to be collected?

You should include a minimum of 3 references. Include a title page, in-text citations, and a reference page in APA format.

Understanding family structure and style is essential to patient and family care. Conducting a family interview and needs assessment gathers information to identify strengths, as well as potential barriers to health

. This information ultimately helps develop family-centered strategies for support and guidance.

This family health assessment is a two-part assignment. The information you gather in this initial assignment will be utilized for the second assignment in Topic 3.

Develop an interview questionnaire to be used in a family-focused functional assessment. The questionnaire must include three open-ended, family-focused questions to assess functional health patterns for each of the following:

1. Values/Health Perception

2. Nutrition

3. Sleep/Rest

4. Elimination

5. Activity/Exercise

6. Cognitive

7. Sensory-Perception

8. Self-Perception

9. Role Relationship

10. Sexuality

11. Coping

Select a family, other than your own, and seek permission from the family to conduct an interview. Utilize the interview questions complied in your interview questionnaire to conduct a family-focused functional assessment. Document the responses as you conduct the interview.

Upon completion of the interview, write a 750-1,000-word paper. Analyze your assessment findings. Submit your questionnaire as an appendix with your assignment.

Include the following in your paper:

1. Describe the family structure. Include individuals and any relevant attributes defining the family composition, race/ethnicity, social class, spirituality, and environment.

2. Summarize the overall health behaviors of the family. Describe the current health of the family.

3. Based on your findings, describe at least two of the functional health pattern strengths noted in the findings. Discuss three areas in which health problems or barriers to health were identified.

4. Describe how family systems theory can be applied to solicit changes in family members that, in turn, initiate positive changes to the overall family functions over time.

Cite at least three peer-reviewed or scholarly sources to complete this assignment. Sources should be published within the last 5 years and appropriate for the assignment criteria.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Create a 3-5-page annotated bibliography and summary based on your research related to best practices addressing one of the health care problems or issues in the Assessment Topic Areas media piece faced by a health care organization that is of interest to you. Introduction

In your professional life, you will need to find credible evidence to support your decisions and your plans of action. You will want to keep abreast of best practices to help your organization adapt to the ever-changing health care environment. Being adept at research will help you find the information you need. For this assessment, you will review the Assessment Topic Areas media piece and select one of the health care problems or issues to research a current health care problem or issue faced by a health care organization that is of interest to you.  Demonstration of Proficiency

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the course competencies through the following assessment scoring guide criteria: Competency 1: Apply information literacy and library research skills to obtain scholarly information in the field of health care. Identify academic peer-reviewed journal articles relevant to a health care problem or issue and describe the criteria used for the literature search. Competency 2: Apply scholarly information through critical thinking to solve problems in the field of health care. Assess the credibility and relevance of information sources. Summarize what was learned from developing an annotated bibliography. Analyze academic peer-reviewed journal articles using the annotated bibliography organizational format. Competency 4: Write for a specific audience, in appropriate tone and style, in accordance with Capella’s writing standards. Summarize a health care problem or issue and describe a personal interest in it and experience with it. Write clearly and logically, with correct use of spelling, grammar, punctuation, and mechanics. Write following APA style for in-text citations, quotes, and references. Instructions

Note: The requirements outlined below correspond to the grading criteria in the scoring guide. At a minimum, be sure to address each point. In addition, you are encouraged to review the performance-level descriptions for each criterion to see how your work will be assessed.

For this assessment, research best practices related to a current health care problem. Your selected problem or issue will be utilized again in Assessment 3. To explore your chosen topic, you should use the first two steps of the Socratic Problem-Solving Approach to aid your critical thinking. View the Assessment Topic Areas media piece and select one of the health care problems or issues in the media piece to research. Write a brief overview of the selected topic. In your overview: Summarize the health care problem or issue. Describe your interest in the topic. Describe any professional experience you have with this topic. Identify peer-reviewed articles relevant to health care issue or problem. Conduct a search for scholarly or academic peer-reviewed literature related to the topic and describe the criteria you used to search for articles, including the names of the databases you used. You will select four current scholarly or academic peer-reviewed journal articles published during the past 3–5 years that relate to your topic. You will want to access the applicable Undergraduate Library Research Guide related to your degree (found at the NHS Learner Success Lab) for tips to help you in your search. Use keywords related to the health care problem or issue you are researching to select relevant articles. Assess the credibility and explain relevance of the information sources you find. Determine if the source is from an academic peer-reviewed journal. Determine if the publication is current. Determine if information in the academic peer-reviewed journal article is still relevant. Analyze academic peer-reviewed journal articles using the annotated bibliography organizational format. Provide rationale for inclusion of each selected article. The purpose of an annotated bibliography is to document a list of references along with key information about each one. The detail about the reference is the annotation. Developing this annotated bibliography will create a foundation of knowledge about the selected topic. In your annotated bibliography: Identify the purpose of the article. Summarize the information. Provide rationale for inclusion of each article. Include the conclusions and findings of the article. Write your annotated bibliography in a paragraph form. The annotated bibliography should be approximately 150 words (1–3 paragraphs) in length. List the full reference for the source in APA format (author, date, title, publisher, et cetera) and use APA format for the annotated bibliography.  Make sure the references are listed in alphabetical order, are double-spaced, and use hanging indents. Summarize what you have learned from developing an annotated bibliography. Summarize what you learned from your research in a separate paragraph or two at the end of the paper. List the main points you learned from your research. Summarize the main contributions of the sources you chose and how they enhanced your knowledge about the topic.

Example Assessment: You may use the following to give you an idea of what a Proficient or higher rating on the scoring guide would look like: Assessment 2 Example [PDF]. Additional Requirements

Your assessment should also meet the following requirements: Length: 3–5 typed, double-spaced pages, not including the title page and reference page. Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point. APA template: Use the APA Style Paper Template [DOCX] as the paper format and the APA Style Paper Tutorial [DOCX] for guidance. Written communication: Write clearly and logically, with correct use of spelling, grammar, punctuation, and mechanics. Content: Provide a title page and reference page following APA style. References: Use at least four scholarly or academic peer-reviewed journal articles. 6052 Discussion 9

As a nurse engaged in evidence-based practice, it is important to recognize how statistics and other data analysis tools are used to generate and assess evidence. Most nurses need only a foundational understanding of statistical tools and terminology to understand the majority of research studies. As a nurse, you should be able to recognize the most commonly used statistical tests, how and when they are used, and how significance is determined.

In this Discussion, you examine different types of statistics and statistical tests, when and why these particular tests would be selected for use, and, most importantly, what the results indicate. To this end, you will be assigned to a group by Day 1 of this week. Each group will be assigned one of the five chapters listed in this week’s Learning Resources and will develop a study sheet on their chapter that will be shared with the other groups.  Review the information in your assigned chapter. As a group, develop a 1-page study sheet that includes      the following:  The key concepts of the chapter: Focus on the basic       concepts that are important for nurses to understand as they review       research studies. A description of the statistical methods covered in       the chapter, what they measure, and under what circumstances they are       used. Identify examples of how the statistical methods have been used in       research studies. An explanation of the key statistical tests and how       they measure significance (if applicable).

Note: This should be a collaborative effort, with each member of the group making contributions to the design and content of the study sheet. Use the Groups link on the left navigation bar to collaborate with your group. When you have developed your 1-page study sheet, select one member to post it to the Week 9 Discussion Forum so that the rest of your colleagues can access it.

To prepare:

Post your group’s study sheet. Discuss why it is important for nurses to understand the basics of these statistical methods.
