IT 647 Navigation Schema Guidelines and Rubric Overview: In the Module Two Website Benchmarking discussion activity, you conducted website benchmarking in a general way. In this activity, you will do some additional benchmarking, focusing specifically on navigation. Navigation is undoubtedly one of the most important aspects of any website. If your website’s navigation is cumbersome, your users will go elsewhere. Before you begin, review the resources W3Schools CSS Navigation Bar, Web Page Mistakes, and Kissmetrics Blog. Prompt: In this assignment, you will analyze the vertical, horizontal, and mixed navigation of several websites. For horizontal navigation, review bestbuy.com, apple.com, or sony.com. For vertical navigation, review homedepot.com or toyrus.com. For mixed navigation, review lowes.com, gap.com, or ebay.com. Explore at least one website in each of the navigational styles listed above. Pay attention to hyperlinks, page-to-page navigation, flow, and nomenclature. Analyze the navigation placement in overall layout, the navigation structure, the navigation elements, and the navigation usability. Use the following questions to guide your analysis: Are website categories clearly defined in the navigation bar? Is the navigation bar easy to use? Is the navigation bar consistent with the overall layout and look and feel of the website design? Are the category titles aligned with the content when you click through from the navigation bar? Is the navigation consistent throughout the site as you click through various pages? For your final project, you will use a navigation template provided to you from HTML5 UP (and housed in Codio), but in this assignment, assume you were to build navigation of your website from scratch. What navigation elements would you need? As part of your paper, provide a list of your basic navigation elements. Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed: Analysis of navigation elements: o Horizontal: Analyze the navigation schema in a website that uses horizontal navigation. o Vertical: Analyze the navigation schema in a website that uses vertical navigation. o Mixed: Analyze the navigation schema in a website that uses both horizontal and vertical navigation. Create a list of navigation elements for the website you will be constructing for your final project. Rubric Guidelines for Submission: Submit a 1- to 2-page Microsoft Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins.
